Welcome to SPH Productions. You are welcome to download my CD from called The Grandfather. It's Ethnic-World music with some Rock elements scattered about. Influences from specific cultures form the theme of each tune, and are named as such. It is perhaps a soundtrack to a travelogue to these areas of the world - at least that was the intention. A word about how this was done. Did I play all those instruments - the answer is yes, with a HUGE caveat: In many areas samplesets were loaded into a plugin called Sampletank and played on a keyboard -, as one might play an organ, except with loops, phrases, fx and utterances assigned to each key. This gave me quick access to experiment with what parts worked well together, thus all the tunes started-out as "sample jams". Actual keyboard parts (single note samples) were played by myself, (piano, balafon, banjo and various ethnic instruments) as well as at least one non-loop drum/percussion track on each song. This was done with the late Doru Malaia's 230 Ethnic Percussions, Battery or Guru - I really don't remember, and a drumKAT DK-10. Oh, and I played V-drums on the African tune. I also did some bass and a few easy guitar parts - often with things slowed waaaaay down - on a Yamaha MIDI guitar. Such is my tale of The Grandfather. It was fun all the way through, but I swore-off loops (except vocal) forever. Very tedious stuff - slice, dice, chop, modulate, etc.. It's a Medieval/Renaissance-styled reworking of Benjamin Britten's Spring Carol - no loops and real vocals, this time out. www.sph-prods.com/Spring_Carol.wav Enjoy. Steve |
